Black Chickpea

CICER RETICULATUM

Black chickpeas are a historic, nutrient-dense legume also known as kala chana. Black chickpeas are drought-tolerant, helping in their cultivation in arid areas with reduced water supply requirements. They are a lot smaller and darker than chickpeas, with a rough texture, and have a slightly nutty flavor. Black chickpeas are rich in protein, dietary fiber, iron, calcium, and magnesium. They are added to a lot of dishes, like soups, stews, salads, and curries, generally requiring soaking before cooking.
