Black Sea collard, locally known as Karalahana, is an heirloom leafy green originating from the Black Sea region in Turkey. It is a staple food plant for the people from the Black Sea Region of Anatolia and it can be seen as a sign of domestic migration. When you see Karalahana growing on a balcony in a big city of Turkey you know that a person from Black Sea region most likely lives in that home. The variety of this collard is highly valued for its strong taste and high nutritional value and occupies an important field in local gastronomy due to its use in various Turkish dishes.
